LEDERER TRIPLE CERTIFIED OBSERVATORY CHRONOMETER

THE OLYMPIC QUEST FOR TIMEKEEPING MASTERY

From the dawn of horology, the quest for precise timekeeping has driven watchmakers to relentlessly pursue chronometry mastery. In mechanical watches, this mastery lies in ensuring regularity and consistency, creating a mechanical symphony that resists external influences like shocks or temperature. This intense and prestigious pursuit for precision and excellence has become something akin to the Olympic Games.

CHRONOMETER COMPETITIONS: THE ULTIMATE PROOF OF PRECISION AND MASTERY.

Chronometer competitions were held around the globe, with the best of the best watch brands vying for recognition and outstanding test scores. Notably, the observatories in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and Kew, near London, have played pivotal roles in them. Earning the title "OBSERVATORY CHRONOMETER" from these esteemed institutions was akin to winning an Olympic gold medal, and the confirmation to unparalleled achievement in precision.

However, most observatory chronometers were so specialized for accuracy that they couldn't be used as everyday wristwatches. They were designed merely for accuracy competitions and were rarely thought for regular wear. Manufacturers have historically strived for this honor, employing the best Master Watchmakers, in order to adjust movements exclusively produced for this purpose.

A TRIPLE-CERTIFIED OBSERVATORY CHRONOMETER: A STEP FURTHER INTO CHRONOMETRY.

To prove that Lederer watches excel not only during the rigorous 15-day tests but that our creations are designed for long-term chronometry and reliability, we have gone above the standards.

We have selected our standard CIC movement, already certified as a chronometer by the esteemed COSC institute. In addition, we have subjected it to testing and certification at three other prestigious institutions that uphold the legacy of precision testing: the Observatory in Besançon, France; the Observatory in Glashütte, Germany; and the “Observatory Chronométrique” in Geneva, Switzerland. These institutions are dedicated to preserving this tradition for future generations.

To highlight the three "gold medals" awarded to our exceptional timepieces, we only shaped two bridges of the movement to create space for the signatures of the three certificates.

A REFINED DESIGN PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE CHRONOMETRY

One of the standout features of the Central Impulse Chronometer is the movement of the minute hand, which follows the rhythm of the remontoire d’égalité every 10 seconds. The minute hand's movement is displayed on a unique scale divided into 6 steps, each representing 10 seconds, culminating in a full minute. A tiny pointer at the middle of the minute hand guides the reading of these 10-second intervals, perfectly synchronized with the remontoir’s rhythm.

Another distinguishing characteristic is the solid silver dial. Using a traditional heating technique, the dial undergoes multiple boiling baths and reheating processes until it achieves its pure white color, reminiscent of freshly fallen snow. The dial features the iconic "V" symbol, inspired by the meridian sign and the seconds dial showcases the coordinates of the three institutions, reflecting the connection to the legacy of chronometric excellence, crucial for determining longitude at sea.

This design is not only a tribute to the precision and reliability inherent in chronometry but also a testament to the savoir-faire and craftsmanship that goes into every Lederer timepiece. Collectors will appreciate the harmonious blend of technical mastery and artisanal excellence, resulting in a watch that transcends the ordinary.

LEDERER IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURE

Located in Saint-Blaise, Switzerland, Lederer's manufacturing facility is nestle in the heart of the renowned “Swiss Watch Valley”, a region steeped in horological heritage and innovation. An independent manufacture that stands out by ensuring full in-house production capabilities and its commitment to uncompromising excellence.

In this creation, we’re proud to say that the unique silver dial is meticulously manufactured in-house and finished by hand. Also, the minute and second hands are crafted in accordance with tradition, each of them made in two pieces, hand-bent, and highly polished. Hardened steel is used to ensure a consistent, deep blue hue, a hallmark of fine watchmaking.

Led by the independent Master Watchmaker Bernhard Lederer, the brand embodies the precision and rigor of German engineering. Lederer captures the essence of craftsmanship, creating extraordinary timepieces that transcend conventional accuracy, showcasing unique savoir-faire and dedication to the art of watchmaking, giving extraordinary emphasis on the need to transfer accumulated knowledge to the next generation of talented watchmakers.
