Admiral's Cup Competition 48 titanium and 18 karat rose gold
In Porto Cervo (Sardinia), at the “DeLuxe 2006” event held on 24 June last, Michael Wunderman, the president of CORUM, presented a world first to the assembled guests: the new Admiral's Cup Competition 48 titanium models and the very latest bi-color versions in titanium and 18 karat rose gold. On this occasion, Michael Wunderman also handed over to the retailers who were present the titanium models which they had been able to admire last spring in Basel. During this event in Porto Cervo, the first model from the collection was auctioned for the benefit of the charitable association for handicapped children and adults at Arzachena. The timepiece went for more than twice its normal retail price.
A striking piece, admired by a sophisticated gathering of connoisseurs of luxury which brought together some 600 celebrities from the world's leading luxury brands, the new Admiral's Cup 48 impressed the audience with its design resolutely focused on the strong values of competitive sport. Developed with current trends in mind, the powerful lines of its titanium case and bracelet are entirely in keeping with the futuristic keel styling, with sharp angles, of the latest sailing boats and motor yachts.
Although it still respects the characteristic features of the Admiral's Cup collection, the Admiral's Cup Competition 48 in titanium and rose gold represents a major evolution in the choice and shape of the components.
Its 48 mm diameter case, the broadest in the collection so far, is made of titanium, a material that is lighter than steel. Another advantage of this remarkable metal is its high resistance to sea water corrosion, making it a perfect choice for the Admiral's Cup line. The 18 karat rose gold bezel is capped by a domed sapphire crystal fashioned in a twelve-sided shape – a world first! It matches with absolute precision the twelve facets of the bezel and assures perfect water-resistance of the case down to a depth of 300 metres (30 atm.). The broad and large time-setting crown, easy both to grip and turn thanks to a double notch system, is set into a vulcanized rubber lateral case extension, thus ensuring the best possible protection of this critical component. The screw-down crown makes for still better water-resistance, as does the screw-in case back featuring a relief decoration of the famous Admiral's Cup Trophy
The superb workmanship of its voluminous COSC certified automatic movement, with its unique dimension - 13 lines ¼ (diameter : 30,40 mm) - makes this one of the world's most reliable, both for its rate accuracy and for its technical construction which is a perfect match for the robust case. The movement features hour, minute, seconds, day and date functions.
The big diameter of the dial opening permits optimum readability. It follows the characteristic twelve-sided shape of the bezel and features the twelve nautical pennants arranged as colorful hour-markers around its dial ring, encircled by a thin gold thread. The big white luminescent minute numerals, also encircled by a thin gold thread, and the gold luminescent hour, minute and second hands, stand out handsomely against the matt black lacquered or satin blue dial. Seconds are displayed in an off-centered subdial at 9 o'clock and the day and date appear through a twin aperture at 3 o'clock.
The design of the robust and comfortable water-resistant strap harmonizes perfectly with that of the case. It is made of black or blue vulcanized rubber to match the color of the dial and secured on the wrist by a big and sturdy titanium Admiral's Cup buckle.
With its striking design, the new Admiral's Cup Competition 48 in titanium and rose gold clearly asserts CORUM's determination to remain firmly at the head of the fleet.
