CHRISTOPHER WARD’S C8 POWER RESERVE CHRONOMETER (STEEL)

The C8 Power Reserve Chronometer effortlessly marries classic aviation design with horological ingenuity to create a watch that excels on both a mechanical and a visual level.

The COSC-certified timepiece combines the readability of a traditional pilot watch with horological sophistication. Its 44mm brushed steel case and black dial, highly legible indexes and Arabic numerals take design cues from famous aviation timepieces like the Smiths Mk II A clock found in the Supermarine Spitfire. The oversized Arabic numerals, hands and indexes are also covered in Super-LumiNova® ‘old radium’ for excellent visibility in low light.

Powered by a hand-wound version of Calibre SH21, Christopher Ward’s own in-house movement with a 5-day power reserve, the C8 Power Reserve Chronometer is complete with both small second and power reserve indicator complications. A meticulous level of engineering is required to facilitate this within the timepiece: in addition to the 112 components that assemble a hand-wound SH21 movement, another 28 are needed for this watch. The twin barrels of SH21 - both of which are engraved with impressions of wind turbine blades – can also be seen through the exhibition caseback, while the exquisitely designed bridge frames the ensemble boldly.
