Chronofighter Oversize Overlord Mark II
Targeting a taste for adventure
Just when some people felt chronographs could not get any larger and more powerful, this Mark II version from Graham Chronographs serves as a reminder that, when it comes to “thinking big” for its Chronofighter line, the sky is definitely the limit!
These days, more and more men are wearing their horological heart on their sleeve with bigger, bolder timepieces. Many of these are packed with high-tech specs and fancy functions. So what's a watch-lover to do if he wishes to stand out from the crowd, to forge trends rather than follow them? The answer may well lie in just such a model as the decidedly different Chronofighter Oversize Overlord Mark II, issued in a limited edition of 250.
Driven by the new bicompax chronograph calibre G1732, it displays a technical sophistication in tune with its rugged good looks, highlighted by the 6-sided screws and modified push-button extension. The sturdy stainless steel case is water-resistant to 100 metres and measures a full 46 mm in diameter. Entirely polished and topped by a satin-brushed bezel, it frames a black and charcoal grey dial protected by a cambered sapphire crystal. The 12 and 6 o'clock Arabic numerals and faceted rectangular hour-markers are filled with a green Superluminova® substance, while the transferred white lettering and outer minute circle further enhance the overall sense of clarity radiating from this unmistakably virile model. Reminiscent of twin targets and of the markings on vintage RAF bomber planes, the oversized silver-ringed counters with multi-coloured central zone fully match its generous dimensions.
Built for action
Meanwhile, the unmistakably original characteristic of this watch is definitely the left-hand trigger-lever complete with non-slip thumb grip. This striking feature is an extra-long interpretation of the co-axial fast-action control device for which Graham has become famous. Aside from its obvious attractively offbeat aesthetic appeal, it is built to enhance both the functionality and durability of this model that has “adventure” written all over it.
According to personal preference, this no-holds-barred timepiece may be teamed with a virile black rubber strap or a matt black calfskin leather strap with contrasting stitching.
In short, this is quite obviously the “ultimate chronograph” for today's peace-time ‘bombardier' prepared to fight for the freedom to express his personality, and for whom the only bomb he wishes to drop is an explosively good-looking, high-performance watch that is bound to be right on target.
