Divina Temptation
The Daring Game with Fire
The series of limited Divina editions, playing with the theme of the four elements, kicked-off in 2005 with the Divina Étoile de Mer. This year, the Swiss brand presents the new Divina Temptation which is a rare combination of Swiss watchmaking precision and the highest level of jewellery art. A serpent – the perfect allegory for “fire” – stylishly embraces the white gold case of the new Divina Temptation.
Ever since Adam and Eve, the serpent has seduced us into eating forbidden fruits, to play the daring game with fire. We are fascinated by its lithe, elegant movements, its shimmering colours and mystical aloofness – its attraction is daunting yet inexplicable. Virtually no other creature is able to put humans under its spell or has been the root of a plethora of myths, legends and sagas among many populations. The serpent is feared yet revered as a kind of cult, shedding its skin every year to symbolize life, it is considered the holder of divine power, as a creature of the soul or the oracle, as a keeper of temples and the underworld and as a symbol of medicine
They found the serpent – and what could better symbolize fire? It stylishly winds over the white gold case of the Divina Temptation – not only over dial and case front, its slender body embraces the entire watch to incorporate the caseback into this extraordinary work of art. Precious stones attractively reflect the colours and round forms of the serpent.
Exactly the right stones, colour shadings and cuts were carefully selected for each of the four Divina Temptation models. Two contrasting types of precious stones were used for each model. The versions limited to 10 pieces are highly glamorous, the back of the serpent being emphasized by baguette-shaped rubies or chocolate-coloured garnets. These are complemented with green tsavorite stones or blue sapphires, their flowing colour graduations revealing the serpent in an almost three-dimensional light. Two further versions – each limited to 30 pieces – play with the contrast between white diamonds or yellow and orange sapphires and luminous red rubies.
The designers stayed true to the theme of “fire” and this goes for the watchband of the Divina Temptation too. Made from genuine snake leather, they harmonize with the colours of the precious stones. They are fitted with an ingeniously simple mechanism so they can be easily changed.
Every single detail of the Divina Temptation reflects the highest possible quality: the precise Swiss quartz movement inside, the white gold case, the solid silver dial, the precious stones, the serpent leather watchband and last but not least the practical folding clasp in 18K 750 white gold. This timepiece from Maurice Lacroix is a rare beauty, the perfect combination of Swiss watchmaking precision and the highest level of jewellery art.
