Clerc Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer

From deep waters to horological peaks of achievement

The Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer is a formidable underwater exploring machine that sets a unique standard in the field of advanced technology. Beating to the pulse of extreme diving adventures, it is the ultimate embodiment of contemporary Haute Horlogerie cut out for exciting feats. The ultra-complex case construction enables it to plunge as deep as 500 metres in complete safety thanks to Clerc Genève’s exclusive patented safety features. A perpetually renewed high-tech instrument, the Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer has been equipped with the line’s first metal bracelet, within a perfectly integrated design further enhancing the powerful aura exuded by this model.

Since its founding in 1874, Clerc has always remained one step ahead of its time, breaking free of conventions to create unique timepieces conveying a resolutely technical and innovative identity. In taking the reins of the Maison, Gérald Clerc, representing the fourth generation of the prestigious line of watchmakers, decided to submit his very first collection created in 1998 to the merciless tests of the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The young custodian of the family tradition passed this ‘entrance exam’ with flying colours, since his watches imperturbably demonstrated their extreme precision and reliability.

In keeping with these original values of excellence, the exclusive self-winding Clerc Calibre C609 beating at the heart of the new Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer has also brilliantly risen to the challenge of COSC certification, thereby joining the select circle of authentic chronometers. While undeniably complex in terms of its construction and its exceptional performances, it is nonetheless simple when it comes to functions, since it displays only essentials: hours, minutes, seconds and the date. This remarkably accurate mechanical movement beats at the high frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour, enjoys a 42-hour power reserve and is graced with remarkable finishes including bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève, blued screws, as well as the finely openworked oscillating weight typical of Clerc movements.

Excellence stems from a refusal to compromise

For Clerc Genève, creative passion is not confined to the sophistication of an exceptional mechanism, but also makes no concessions when it comes to design and materials. The extremely technical case corresponds to one of the most complex constructions in contemporary watchmaking. Developed in close cooperation with a team of professionals of underwater exploration, it comprises 81 parts and meets a three-fold demand: exceptional aesthetic appeal, innovative construction and useful functions.

Each of the components is individually machined, thereby giving each case a truly unique character. Its case middle is flanked by lateral reinforcements and a construction ensuring water resistance to 500 metres, while its powerful octagonal rotating bezel forcefully imposes the iconic signature of the Hydroscaph collection. Because safety reigns supreme when it comes to braving the depths, the dedicated crown at 2 o’clock serving to pivot the bezel requires prior deployment of a built-in retractable flap. Returning the flap to its initial position securely locks the bezel, thus avoiding any risk of accidental deregulation when diving.

A distinctive new metal bracelet

The Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer is an unmistakably adrenalin-rush model that welcomes the line’s first ever metal bracelet this year, made of solid steel and specially developed by Clerc Genève to procure unbeatable comfort. Merging seamlessly into the case, it acts like an extension of the Hydroscaph collection’s signature mobile lugs – designed to adapt to any wrist shape or size and featuring a unique structure ensuring remarkably supple bracelet link adjustment. The distinctive construction of this watchband accentuates the powerful style of the Hydroscaph, while displaying fascinating effects achieved by alternating polished and satin-brushed finishes. It is particularly resistant and easily adjustable, even over a neoprene diving suit, and firmly secured to the wrist by a folding clasp complete with safety pushers.

Unique character revealed in every last detail

Beneath its apparent simplicity, the dial of the Clerc Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer reveals an undeniable aesthetic and technical appeal. The impact and the optimal legibility of the display combined with a complex construction add to the strength of this model. The individually machined three-dimensional numerals and hour-markers proclaim a boldly assertive character. When viewed from the front, they appear slightly trapeze-shaped, while ensuring maximum readability from all angles. Like them, the hands also display a post-industrial look and are coated with Superluminova for perfect read-off even in the darkest abyss.

External variations on a powerful design

The inimitably powerful Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer comes with a varied choice of blue, black, or silver-toned dials. A unique watch with many different faces, the Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer is a high- tech expression of luxury watchmaking, forcefully reasserting the values of excellence and innovation that have been guiding the destiny of the Maison Clerc for 140 years.
