The bonding technology

An advanced technique has been used to create the unique dial of the new IMPERIALE timepiece: bonding technology.

Initially developed and widely used for the printed circuit boards, the technique was subsequently adopted in the jewellery and watchmaking fields. The technique of decoration using precious or semi-precious metal wires requires perfectly round and highly polished material. It calls for high precision working with extremely thin material: for instance, the gold wire is one-third thinner than a human hair.

The technique is performed mechanically but demands a very high level of preparation: the gold wire needs to be perfectly placed at each spot-weld, its curve has to be defined, as does space between the wires as well as their length, all in accordance with the design. Bonding technology serves to create sculptured surfaces catching and reflecting the light. This sophisticated and highly complex weaving technique gives relief and texture to the design, creating a true work of art. The extremely fragile decorated dial must be assembled by the most talented and highly skilled watchmakers.
