Description

The Marc Jenni “JJJ”, with its seven days, seven planets and seven symbols indication, features it's ground-breaking world's first lateral winding automatic movement and a window through which we are offered a view back deep into the history of time. The indication of the planetary symbols for each day of the week reminds us the origins of the division of time that goes back to the era of the Babylonians.

Intriguingly, a couple of pocket watches dating back to 1780, signed by Johann Jakob Jenny, the oldest know watchmaker of the Jenni Family, displayed the same indication of planetary symbols along with the days of the week.

Marc Jenni then translated the unusual planet indicator to mark the equivalent day of the week into a contemporary timepiece.

The “JJJ” uses a single sapphire crystal plate for its dial. To achieve it's multi-layered effect, the crystal has been given six different surface treatments including a metallization layer (for the background colour), laser engraving (the radiating sunrays), laser-cutting (apertures), sandblasted aperture frame with smoke-effect and metal deposit process (rhodium) on the top surface for the motif, brand name and other applied indicators.

Marc Jenni's “JJJ” displays ‘Time', ‘Date' and ‘Wind', to indicate which function you are adjusting or using. Once the desired function is selected through the push button, winding the movement and the adjustment of time, day and date are operated via the ‘turning ring'.

The “JJJ” demonstrates the ingenious incorporation of the day, date and planetary symbols and it allows us to think back in time through a magnificent and innovative timepiece.
