Lady Arpels Polar Landscape Seal Decor
Skies of turquoise enamel, waves and clouds in mother-of-pearl, animals with coats set in diamonds. The most precious materials ennoble precision movements, giving time a poetic dimension that is unique to Van Cleef & Arpels.
Each dial is constructed like a miniature masterpiece. Enamellers, engravers and stone cutters are all contributing with their expertise to enrich the work of the watchmakers.
The delicacy of the work is such that a slight movement of the wrist changes the play of shadow and light on the surface of the watch. The reflections from translucent enamels increase or diminish the shimmering brilliance of the mother-of-pearl. The materials bring life to the piece and thus the Extraordinary Dials become expressions of love, tenderness or admiration.
Five weeks in a balloon - Antartica
Van Cleef & Arpels has chosen to write a supplementary chapter of the Jules Verne novel, Five weeks in a balloon. The African adventure is complemented by a flight across Antarctica.
The dial of the Lady Arpels Polar Landscape Seal decor timepiece shows seals, just out of the water, drying themselves in the rays of the winter sun. The water is depicted in translucent enamel. The base of the dial is gold which has been engraved before the enamel is applied in order to create the impression of movement.
