Maestro 2.0 ultra-thin

It is an extraordinary honour for Gerald Charles to carry the name of the great Gérald Charles Genta forward into the future and to celebrate his unique talent. Monsieur Genta founded the company in 2000 and designed the Maestro in 2006, often saying it was his favourite Gerald Charles creation. It has been the company’s great privilege to explore the Maestro’s singular form and to find new expressions of its sporty, elegant, unmistakable silhouette.

Leading the way this year was the Maestro 2.0 Premier 2021 Ref. GC2.0-RG-02, a limited-edition rose gold and emerald green version of Monsieur Genta’s spectacular vision. As well as protecting his design and engineering legacy, today's challenge was to deliver an ultra-thin, 18-carat rose gold version of this uniquely shaped watch with a sapphire case back and with water resistance to 100 metres. Our research and development team spent lockdown finding a solution to this engineering problem and successfully delivered it. 

Inside this historic case, Gerald Charles engineers put a specially adapted, beautifully decorated Vaucher time-and-date automatic movement that was just 3.7mm thick. Because this watch was a landmark design and technical creation, the company decided to limit production to just 25 pieces, each numbered, making this iteration a one-off, standalone piece in the story of Gérald Charles. This is why it was called the Premier 2021. No future Maestro will share the same specifications and combination of materials. 

The extremely ergonomic, semi-integrated, strap is made of natural, vulcanized, rubber. This material ensures comfort and lightness on wrist, in addition to excellent water resistance. The “clous de Paris” motif on the front is completed by a Gerald Charles’ logos pattern on its back, also being an original design by Monsieur Genta. The choice of only using natural rubber on every new Gerald Charles watch, complies with the Maison’s vision of animal-free timepieces.

The piece becomes the template for future iterations of the Maestro and has already spawned sister steel models that continue the story. With its inimitable profile, the Premier 2021 Ref. GC2.0-RG-02 was a hit with the international watch community and sold out far faster than expected.
