Marine 5837 ~ Tourbillon chronograph
This year the Marine line welcomes a not inconsiderable complication – the tourbillon regulator. Breguet's celebrated brainchild has now climbed aboard this collection, heir to the exclusive timepieces which Breguet had in his day designed and built for the Royal French Navy.
Positioned at 12 o'clock on the dial and driven by a handwound mechanical movement, the tourbillon contributes its complex construction and precision to the Marine 5837's time and chronograph functions. The pink gold case's wave-shaped pushpieces and the black rhodium-plated dial's wave-patterned engine-turned finish constitute discreet allusions to the collection's origins.
Coated with luminescent compound, open-tipped Breguet hands sweep over the chapter ring's luminous applied numerals and dots. The chronograph totalizers are positioned at 3 and at 6 o'clock while the tourbillon carriage doubles as a subdial for the seconds. Water-resistant to 100 meters (~ 330 feet), this Marine design aptly weds the world of sport to that of Haute Horlogerie. Its black rubber strap fitted with a pink gold buckle adds its own touch of character to an unabashedly contemporary timepiece.
