Millenary MC12 Tourbillon and chronograph
It defies the laws of gravity with its finely crafted tourbillon. It reinvents the laws of geometry with its oval case and off-centred displays. It gives a new face to tradition with its openworked dial revealing the movement. Created in homage to Maserati and to one of its most beautiful racing cars, the Millenary MC12 Tourbillon and chronograph sends a fresh and daring wind blowing through Haute Horlogerie. A new collector's piece, issued in a limited series of 150 in platinum.
A tribute to fine mechanical engineering
Tradition, excellence, daring: these are the three values – like the three spikes of the Maserati trident – on which Audemars Piguet has based its partnership with the famous Italian automobile manufacturer. Closely associated with the “Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa”, the Manufacture in Le Brassus is also the official sponsor of the MC12 cars taking part in the GT competitions. In 2004, Audemars Piguet celebrated Maserati's 90th anniversary by launching a watch that attracted considerable attention: the Dual Time Millenary Maserati. The unusual deign of this timepiece heralded the renewal of the Millenary, characterised by its slightly curving oval case. Audemars Piguet is now launching a second Millenary dedicated to the prestigious automobile brand: the MC12 Tourbillon and chronograph, a watch combining a tourbillon, a chronograph and a twin-barrel system ensuring a 10-day power reserve within an highly original “chassis”. A new blend of performances and aesthetics, classicism and modernity.
A token of daring
Named in honour of the Maserati MC12, the car that marks the Italian brand's return to high-level motor sports competition, the new Audemars Piguet Tourbillon and chronograph is resolutely inspired by the spirit and the design of the automobile world. Firstly through its white and blue colour, much like the racing version of the MC12. Also through its high-tech materials: a carbon movement mainplate to ensure optimal lightness, and entirely redesigned eloxed aluminium bridges. Through its technical appearance reminiscent of a dashboard; and also its main dial that is off-centred as if by the effect of a sudden burst of speed. The double Maserati and Audemars Piguet signature on the barrels, as well as the famous trident, underscore its prestigious lineage. The original oval case in platinum is a daring break from the classic aesthetics of high-end watches. The two chronograph push-buttons, unusually positioned at 2 and 10 o'clock, reinforce this dynamic touch. The openworked dial with its contemporary cut-outs and its superimposed effects is an invitation to journey to the very heart of mechanical horology.
A major accomplishment
Driving the new Millenary MC12, rather than a 700 HP V-12 engine, throbs a genuine masterpiece of the watchmaking art: the new Audemars Piguet calibre 2884, also representing a major accomplishment in its own right. Its oval hand-wound movement with a double barrel ensuring an exceptional 10-day power reserve, combines a tourbillon and a power-reserve display with a high-performance column-wheel chronograph mechanism. Comprising 70 parts weighing a total of just 0.45 grams, this tourbillon splendidly reflects the legendary know-how of Audemars Piguet, one of the rare Manufactures capable of mastering all the intricacies of this complication and the author of a range encompassing more than 16 different movements equipped with a tourbillon. The chronograph measures sporting feats with extreme precision. For speed freaks, it is complemented by an extremely refined tachometric scale. The 10-day (240 hour) power reserve shows to the left of the dial on a blue/red indicator reminiscent of a petrol gauge. The rapid-rotating twin-barrel system, with a number of turns limited to 19.75, guarantees constant force during the 10 days of autonomous operation, thereby ensuring enhanced efficiency and chronometric precision. Another exclusive feature lies in the use of a white gold and palladium alloy for the barrels, thus reducing the loss of energy due to the friction of the springs against the cover and the back. An impressive range of assets for a high-performance engine, assembled and finished with infinite care.
An exclusive creation
The Audemars Piguet Millenary MC12 Tourbillon and chronograph is issued in a limited edition of 150 in 950 platinum. It is fitted with a transparent sapphire crystal caseback enabling one to admire the elegance and original design of the blue eloxed aluminium bridges. It is teamed with a blue crocodile leather strap with AP folding clasp in 950 platinum, matching the blued luminescent “lozenge-shaped” hands and the minute circle. An exceptional watch, in homage to an exceptional car.
