P´6920 Rattrapante Chronograph takes a bow

Grenchen/Stuttgart. Porsche Design presents the P´6920 Rattrapante Chrono-graph with a mechanical movement, which will be available in a limited edition of 250 timepieces. The appearance of the Rattrapante is reminiscent of the styling of the brand's legendary P'6910 Indicator. Porsche Design licensee Eterna will be dis-playing the sporty, masculine P´6920 to the trade at the Baselworld World Watch and Jewellery Show, which is held from March 26th to April 2nd, 2009. The timepiece can precisely measure and display intermediate times as often as required. The Rattrapante is limited to 200 timepieces in PVD-coated titanium (Physical Vapour Deposition) and 50 timepieces combined with classically elegant rose gold.

Two hands capable of stopping time

The P´6920 Rattrapante is capable of measuring intermediate times by using the split-second mechanism. When the chronograph is started with the right-hand push-piece (2 o'clock position), the two superimposed central seconds hands be-gin to move. The lower seconds hand is stopped by the third push-piece on the left and indicates the first intermediate time. When the left hand push-piece is actuated again, the first hand catches up with the second one and moves on in synchrony. This function helps explain the name of the watch: the French word “Rattrapante” means “catching up”. The Rattrapante Chronograph comes with a certificate of precision issued by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

Optimum legibility

A characteristic of Porsche Design watches is the clarity of the design, typography and colour of the dial, which ensure immediate and unequivocal legibility. The three chronograph counters and the date indicator feature red and white accents, en-sures optimum legibility through the gently cambered sapphire crystal. The central seconds hand displays the stop function and the fly back hand the intermediate time. The two hands are easy to tell apart thanks to their differing red and green Porsche Design Timepieces tips. To prevent parallax error, the minute markings are printed on the underside of the crystal around its periphery. Obscuring of the stop function hands is ruled out by the semi-skeletal design of the main hands. These main hands, the digits and the indices are coated in grey shades of Superluminova to aid legibility. For the first time, the Porsche Design logo and the watch's designation appear on the periphery of the dial, thereby accentuating the overall harmony of the watch.

Functional design

The distinctive case of the new timepiece is 45 millimetres in diameter and made from titanium, a material typical of Porsche Design characterised by exceptional lightness and resistance to corrosion. The black surface is applied to the case us-ing PVD technology: in this vacuum-based coating process, a matt-black layer of metal nitride is generated by condensation, which protects the watch from external influences. While the first version is presented in a completely black finish, the sec-ond incorporates elements of rose gold. This classically elegant material offers a fascinating contrast to the sporty, contemporary design of the watch and serves to emphasise its superior quality. The bezel and case back, both in rose gold, enclose the titanium case in a rugged structure. Four screws hold this structure securely in place, underscoring the altogether masculine lines of the watch. The three PVD-coated titanium push-buttons provide optimum grip and call to mind the pedals of a sports car. The same goes for the screwed-down crown with its clous de Paris embellishment, which is optionally available in rose gold. The natural rubber strap with its titanium-coated folding clasp has grooves on its inner surface for enhanced ventilation of the skin. The sapphire crystal on the case back allows the owner to admire both the self-winding Valjoux 7750 movement with its AR2 Rattrapante module and double-sided winding system with its energy-optimised Porsche Design rotor designed by Eterna for the Indicator P'6910.
