THE INSPRIRATION BEHIND THE SB05

The SB5 would not be possible without the strides made with the SB04. The SB04 was the first series where I really explored the possibility of making my own customizations - the hands, chapter rings and some of the dials (titanium) are not only of my own design but are made by me.

I am a designer first and foremost. I have been able to learn dial making, and with the help of some kind and patient craftsmen, I have been learning the art and craft of making watch hands, indices, and chapter rings. This is a big step from simply buying these components. This is why watch collectors have been coming to me more and more. I have no marketing budget, no "friends of the brand". Sartory Billard's brand ambassadors are something completely different in today's watch world - they are satisfied customers.

I love to promote the subcontractors that I work with because they are the foundations of the watchmaking industry. I also want to try and help dispel the myth of the “all in house” watch. It sounds great, but apart from a very small handful of brands, it is just that – a myth created for marketing purposes. Owing to this, I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the technical development of the SB05 has been conducted by Comblemine (who creates the Guilloché dials for me) and the case will be made by Voutailinen & Cattin SA.

A higher grade movement was also the next logical step for Sartory Billard. A movement can do more than simply power a watch.  It can tell its own story. But rather than try to create a faux (false) impression, I wanted complete transparency about the movement, and its provenance. We will be using a manual wound movement from La Joux Perret with a special set of finishes made for the SB05.  I am proud to have earned the trust of La Joux Perret and even prouder that the SB05 will have this beautiful movement setting the beat.

Sartory Billard began as, essentially, a "ready to wear" item. But before I was a designer, I was a sketcher, an artist who found a way to make a living with my passion. What motivated me to create Sartory Billard was the desire to make really personal watches.

And that has really driven the evolution of Sartory Billard - customization. Offering our customers the possibility to bring their design ideas to life.

About this watch summited to the GPHG 2022

This SB05 Black Mother of Pearl and Darken grained titanium dials has been created with a customer and the overall design balance is incredible. The light plays on the Black mother of pearl and the darker outer ring is a great support for the rose gold roman numerals (stamped on a sapphire disk). The hands are highly polished and also in rose gold color. The movement is in a dark grey shade with a modern set of finishes like circular brushed and soft grained.

I launched the SB05 in 2021 I was absolutely amazed by the response! More than 50 watches were sold over the first week and have been reserved with a deposit. The deliveries started in autumn 2021 and continue through 2022. I can create a maximum of 125 SB05 per year, and I do not believe in “Daytona-Nautilus” types of waiting lists so I purposely limit the capacities to an average of 11 months of time to deliver for the SB05.

The SB05 presented to the GPHG 2022 has been delivered recently.

The SB05 is not limited in terms of total production, but I work alone and prefer to maintain this approach, so I appreciate my customer’s patience! The one thing I refuse to compromise on is my personal involvement and connection to my each of my customers. Small is beautiful.
